Olympique Lyonnais cruised through the Europa League round of 16 with a resounding 4-0 home win over Bucharest. The Lyonnais will face a formidable Manchester United side in the quarter-finals.
A walk in the park for Les Gones. Having beaten FCSB last week (1-3), OL had already taken a serious chance of reaching the quarterfinals. OL are currently in good form, with 5 wins and 1 loss in their last 6 matches in all competitions.
This was confirmed from the outset. Lyon took the psychological advantage over their opponents from the first half. With an ever-present Cherki and Mikautadze scoring (14th minute) and then providing an assist for Nuamah (37th minute), OL now have a four-goal lead in their double-header against Steaua. Bucharest also failed to trouble Les Gones, who dominated the first half.
After the break, the Gones had lost none of their superiority. Just two minutes after the restart, Mikautadze scored twice: 3-0!
Lyon didn’t let up in this match and continued to push into the opposing camp. Mikautadze was close to a hat trick.
In the final minutes of the game, Nuamah scored the other double of the match: 4-0!
We know who Lyon will face in the quarter-finals. It will be Manchester United, who defeated Real Sociedad tonight.
